Gen. Laws § 45-19-12.3. This Department has previously issued an advisory opinion to the Board of Relief for Policemen concerning this same issue. In U95-01, we advised the Board of Relief for Policemen) that in enacting the tuition benefit statutes, the legislature appears to intend to afford benefits for bachelors' degrees, and not for advanced degrees.
