QUESTION Is there any reason why the county cannot pay health insurance premiums for the Board of Registrars, if the commissioners of the county are agreeable to do so? FACTS AND ANALYSIS Members of the Board of Registrars are entitled to compensation and expense allowances to be paid by the State as set forth in Code of Alabama 1975, _ 17-4-153. This office has previously held that registrars may receive a county salary supplement only if local legislation authorizes the salary supplement because registrars are not county employees subject to the supervision of the county commission.
