1. No marshal shall be permitted to enter upon the duties of his office until he shall have given a bond as herein prescribed. The bond shall be executed by the marshal with a fidelity or surety company duly authorized by law to act as surety or with two sufficient sureties, who shall be residents of the county and each of whom shall be the owner of real estate therein of the value of double the penalty of the bond, which shall be in such sum as the board of supervisors shall prescribe but not less than three thousand dollars. The bond shall provide that the marshal and the surety or sureties shall jointly and severally answer to the county and any persons that may complain, for the true and faithful execution by such marshal of the duties of his office.
