         Mr. Edgar F. Lee          Alderman          Route 1          Box 231          Enterprise, Mississippi 39330          Re: Municipal Officers—Appointive           Dear Mr. Lee:          Attorney General Summer is in receipt of your letter dated July 26, 1977 to the attention of Mr. Sam Birdsong, and has assigned it to me for reply.          Your letter states:
“I am an alderman of the Town of Enterprise, Mississippi. “Will you please advise me as to whether or not the mayor and board of aldermen of the Town of Enterprise may lawfully appoint either the mayor or any of the aldermen to fill any other position of the Town of Enterprise for which compensation is paid in addition to the regular compensation of the mayor and aldermen. “More specifically, may the mayor and board of aldermen lawfully appoint the mayor to serve as water superintendent and pay an additional salary for such service as water superintendent, or in the alternative, may the mayor be employed to make repairs, improvements or extensions to the water system, or perform services for the water system, and receive per job, per diem, or hourly compensation for so doing.”
