Gen. 77]Nonhigh school districts may pay not exceeding $5 per month for board and lodging in lieu of transportation for children attending public high schools, but not when attending private or parochial schools of high school grade. Such districts may pay like amounts for board and lodging in lieu of transportation of children attending grade schools in other districts, and of children attending private and parochial schools of like grade in other districts.September 25, 1940.Hon. C. T. Godwin,District Attorney, Baker County. Dear Sir: I have your letter of September 17th in which you request my opinion upon the question of the authority of the board of education of a nonhigh school district to transport students and to arrange or pay for their board and lodging in lieu of transportation if that seems to be advisable. It appears that the Baker county nonhigh school district has entered into a contract with the Baker high school district for the transportation of the pupils of said nonhigh school district to and from the Baker high school; that some of the children living on the transportation route attend a private school in the city of Baker and they are being transported on the school bus and the nonhigh school district through its board is paying for such transportation. You request my opinion upon the following questions:
"(1) Does the nonhigh school board have authority to pay this $5 per month over to such high school pupils staying in Baker, the same being paid to them to assist in paying their board and lodging?
(2) Does this nonhigh school board have authority to provide funds for carrying pupils who attend the private or parochial school?
(3) Does the nonhigh school board have authority to pay this $5 per
