         Mr. Terry Randolph          Superintendent of Education          Hancock County          Bay St. Louis, Mississippi 39520          Dear Mr. Randolph:          Attorney General Summer has received your letter of request dated March 12, 1979, and has assigned it to me for research and reply.          In your letter you inquire as follows:
‘Can a county board of education expend local school funds to challenge the end result of a basketball game such as the official ruling by the referees and time-keepers which resulted in a loss to a particular school because of a judgment ruling.’
         Section 37–7–301(r), Mississippi Code of 1972, provides that school trustees have the power, authority, and duty ‘to provide and regulate athletic programs . . ..’ (Emphasis added) It is obvious that the basketball game to which you refer was a part of the athletic program authorized by Hancock County Board of...
