         Mr. Terry Randolph          Superintendent          Hancock County School District          Post Office Box 269          Bay St. Louis, Mississippi 39520          School District Funds           Dear Mr. Randolph:          Attorney General Pittman has received your letter of request dated August 1, 1984, and has assigned it to me for research and reply. Your inquiry states:
The Hancock county Superintendent of Education's Office has been moved to a location some ten (10) miles from the County Courthouse by order of the Board of Supervisors. Would you please render an opinion as to the legality of the Superintendent expending School District Funds for necessary office furniture for the School Board, Superintendent and staff, such as desks, board table, chairs, bookcases, file cabinets, etc.? The Board of Supervisors furnishes janitorial, landscape and general maintenance services for other county offices. Would they also be responsible for furnishing janitorial, landscape and general maintenance services at our remote location?
         The provisions of § 37-5-81, Mississippi Code of 1972, are as follows:
The county superintendent of education shall keep an office at the county site of the county which shall be provided for him or her by the board of supervisors together with all necessary furniture and water, gas, electricity, and other utilities necessary and required for the operation of his said office, which shall be paid for out of the general fund of the county upon allowance of the board of supervisors. The cost of all necessary supplies, office machines, books, stationery, paper, and other supplies needed in the proper discharge of his official duties shall be paid for out of the general county school fund upon allowance thereof by the county board
